The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 25, 2026, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Urban Co-operative Banks – Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio) Fourth Amendment Directions, 2026, further to amend the Reserve Bank of India Reserve Bank of India (Urban Co-operative Banks – Cash Reserve Ratio and Statutory Liquidity Ratio) Directions, 2025.
The amendment aims to shorten the period of exemption from CRR and SLR maintenance available on specified fresh FCNR(B) and NRE term deposits. Accordingly, the eligibility period for fresh FCNR(B) deposits of 3–5 years’ tenor has been revised from June 8, 2026–September 30, 2026 to June 8, 2026–August 31, 2026, while the period for fresh NRE term deposits of 3 years or more has been revised from June 19, 2026–September 30, 2026 to June 19, 2026–August 31, 2026. The Fourth Amendment comes into force with immediate effect.
