EHS ComplianceThe Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), on August 19, 2026, issued Direction No. 102 under Section 12 of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas Act, 2021, proposing measures to mandate new registration of cleaner modes of Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) in Delhi-NCR. The directions are aimed at protecting and improving air quality in the NCR by addressing vehicular emissions, particularly PM₂.₅ pollution.

The Direction notes that PM₂.₅ remains the predominant pollutant determining the AQI in the region and relies on an assessment indicating that the vehicular sector contributes approximately 23% of the total PM₂.₅ load during winter months and 18% during summer months in Delhi-NCR. It further identifies Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar as contiguous NCR districts with high vehicle density and significant vehicular emissions.

The measure has been issued in view of the need for coordinated regional interventions to reduce air pollution and promote cleaner transportation. The Commission has exercised its powers under Section 12(1) and Section 12(2)(xi) of the 2021 Act, under which directions issued by the Commission are binding on the concerned persons, officers and authorities.
