The Ministry of Finance (MoF) on August 21, 2026, issued a notification regarding Duty-Free Import of 10 Lakh MT Raw Sugar under TRQ.
The following has been stated: -
•The Central Government has exempted 10 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of raw sugar from customs duty under the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) scheme in public interest.
•The exemption applies to imports under tariff heading 1701 and is subject to DGFT-issued electronic TRQ authorisation.
•Imports will be permitted only through electronic validation and debit in the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES).
•The notification is effective immediately and remains valid until October 31, 2026.
