The Government of Meghalaya on August 07, 2026, issued a notification regarding restrictions on Parking of Heavy/Commercial Vehicles on National Highways.
The following has been stated: -
•The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has prohibited heavy/commercial vehicles from parking, halting, or standing on National Highway carriageways or paved shoulders, except at designated parking areas.
•The order is effective immediately and remains valid for two months from August 07, 2026, unless withdrawn or modified earlier.
•Violations are punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
•The order is to be publicly displayed at relevant locations, police stations and transport check-gates for enforcement.
